Photo Frustrations over a Kir Royale
As a newbie Food Blogger, I am (as usual in terms of new interests) becoming rapidly obsessed. Already, I find myself frustrated by my inability to take photos of the quality that I would like. The digital camera that I was so excited to receive as a gift from my sister-in-law just 7 months ago is now driving me crazy with its limitations (Kodak EasyShare). For example, the lowest F-Stop I can use is 4.8, and I can't utilize a different len or a filter.
I am also frustrated by my almost complete lack of knowledge of photography. When I look at this photo, for example, I notice that the cobalt tile table is dirty, and that there is a weird shadow at the top of the photo, that I can see the edge of the wicker chair and the surface of the balcony floor.
I have never been particularly interested in photography other than the typical point-and-click photos of vacations. Now, I am itching to go out and buy all kinds of props, stuff to use for backgrounds, cameras and equipment, and more. Already I have purchased several books on photography, digital food photography, and food styling. I want to be a good food photographer, and I want it NOW!
However, in my saner moments, I accept that I cannot become an accomplished food photographer overnight and that part of the fun of a new pursuit is the time spent learning and growing a body of knowledge. So, I will take it slow, gradually purchasing those items that I believe will be genuinely helpful, and appreciating my progression. In the meantime, I will do my best and be happy with my results, even when the results aren’t “perfect,” as with this photo of a luscious Kir Royale on a hot evening on my balcony.
Recipe: Kir Royale
½ oz Chambord
Brut Champagne or Sparkling Wine
Lemon twist (optional)
Pour Chambord into a champagne flute and top with Champagne or Sparkling Wine. Drop in the lemon twist (if available).

I do a lot of shooting both for my food as well as my photo site (www.wheresmymind.com)
I am always thankful for friendly suggestions (especially when I am new at something, like photography)!
I checked out your link, and the book won't be released until Jan 2007 - do you have an earlier edition perhaps?
